What? The Circle, a popular reality series in the UK, is premiering in the US on Netflix! Today, Netflix dropped a trailer for the upcoming series on YouTube, showing some of the cast!
As mentioned in the trailer, the show’s basic concept features players living in an apartment building together, but only able to communicate through a text app. So, players could pretend to be anyone they wanted! Then, players rate each other from highest to lowest, with the top two players then “blocking” another player, thereby eliminating them. The series will be hosted by Michelle Beteau.
The ability to catfish someone has been shown off on both seasons of the original show, with the first season’s winner Alex playing as “Kate.” Check out his YouTube video on some behind the scenes secrets that will leave you stunned.
While CBS’s Survivor focuses on the microcosm of society and Catfish portrays the length lies can go, The Circle combines both of these elements, and one more recent phenomenon in society: how social media can impact your life.
The trailer of the show talks about the show as “on social media, you can be anyone and say anything,” the narrator says in the trailer. “So who would you be if $100,000 was on the line? Welcome to The Circle, a new social experiment where players don’t meet face-to-face. They only communicate through The Circle.”
The US series isn’t the only version of The Circle launching across the world. Reportedly, there are also going to be versions launching soon in France and Brazil as well. In fact, both shows casting has now closed on the official website. However, no premiere date or trailer has been announced for either version.
The last series in the UK went remarkably well. So well, in fact, that they reused the apartment building from last season for the US version! Firstly, the finale had a 67% increase over the first season. Also, it was the number-one ranked program in it’s time slot for viewers aged 16-34. Paddy Smyth ultimately won the season, playing as himself. Georgina Elliot was the runner-up.
