Twitter DRAGS ‘Cultural Icon’ Vashtie For Marrying A White Man Like

Twitter has a lot to say about Vashtie Kola’s new wedding photos. The music video director married designer Emil Boye in March, while wearing an unconventional wedding outfit.
Vashtie wore an all-white outfit consisting of a T-shirt, jeans, sneakers, gloves, and a durag veil. Fans are now defending the 39-year-old after Twitter users criticized not only her fashion, but also her choice of husband.
Twitter Reacts To Vashtie Kola’s Wedding
According to Complex, Vashtie got engaged last year and planned to have a “big celebratory wedding” in 2020. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the couple postponed the bigger celebration and got married at City Hall in March.
The outlet shared photos of the couple on their big day, shot by Edwin Ortiz Jr. Some Twitter users loved Vashie’s look, with one calling her a “cultural icon.” However, others disagreed, calling it her “worst fit” ever.
But it wasn’t just her outfit that had people talking. Some Twitter users also criticized her for marrying a white man. One person who disliked her outfit tweeted that her marriage to a white man and former relationship Pharrell proved that there is “no more culture.”

Others were simply shocked to learn that her new husband is white, while some dragged his appearance. Someone said Vashtie shouldn’t “bring black culture” to a wedding with a white groom.
The negative tweets received responses from people who think Vashtie should be able to marry whoever she wants — and wear what she wants. One user even pointed out that African men frequently wear traditional clothes when they marry white women, wondering what the problem is.
