The X Factor UK Renewed By ITV In Spite Of Bad Ratings
We were speculating that due to The X Factor UK‘s dismal ratings this year, that ITV might cancel the show. A couple of weeks ago they got the lowest ratings in the history of the show. The X Factor has been on for 14 years and all shows have their expiration date. But The X Factor hasn’t gotten there yet. The X Factor UK renewed for another season thanks to the powers of Simon Cowell.
We all know that Simon Cowell is not only a great judge on these shows, he’s also a savvy businessman. He was able to convince the network suits at ITV to keep the show on the air despite the ratings. One reason is that even though they don’t draw in a lot of people, the fans that are watching are young. That is THE demographic that advertisers want…because young people will buy anything. Also, because it’s on the weekend, it manages to bring in money on days where not a lot is going on. Simon said,
“We could probably do three years or five years. It makes a lot of money. We got to a point years ago where we were able to compete with Strictly because there was that huge audience. We’re losing people now but fortunately the young audience has actually grown this year, and all the advertisers and the sponsors want that income on a Saturday.”
Let’s face it, Strictly Come Dancing is squashing them in the ratings. However, the Brits are a very traditional people. They get set in their ways and don’t need the constant innovations and novelty that we do in the States. That’s why they still have a queen in an era where that is not a thing anymore. Simon has said that the current judges will be back next year. Let’s see what else he comes up with to improve the show. All I know is that Simon is really good at saving his own hide.
