‘The X Factor UK’ Contestant Kevin Davy White Compares Experience On ‘The Voice’
To the casual observer it may seem like all of the singing competition shows are the same. You get in front of the judges, you sing your heart out, they mentor you, and the best singer wins. But it isn’t that simple. Each show has it’s own vibe and are looking for slightly different kinds of acts. We wrote about soulful French singer Kevin Davy White’s audition for The X Factor UK. Turns out this isn’t his first rodeo.
It seems that Kevin was a contestant on The Voice France. He was initially picked to compete but he was eliminated early on last year. Maybe it’s sour grapes or perhaps it’s that he is currently competing on The X Factor, but he thinks that The Voice is too focused on…well…the voice. They don’t look at the total package of what a performer brings to the table. He explains,
“I sing in a different way for that kind of TV show. They wanted me to show all of my range but I love to sing the song as good as I can. So not to show all of my range, I sang the way I wanted to. They were expecting me to go really high but the song didn’t need it so I didn’t do it. That frustrated them and I understand that. The X Factor is not just about the voice. It’s about having the whole package.”
I’m not sure that I agree that The Voice doesn’t look at the big picture of a performer. But it is possible that The X Factor takes that more into account. Then again, I’ve never auditioned for either show so what do I know?
