The Monster…er…T Pain. After 8 weeks and lots of celebrities in weird costumes being unmasked, it came down to The Monster, The Bee, and The Peacock for The Masked Singer finale. They were by far the strongest singers and performers, which led to an amazing finale.
I think one of the greatest things about T Pain’s performances as The Monster is that he proved to the world that he is, in fact, a fantastic singer. He had a reputation back in the day of singing only with autotune. The implication being that he can’t sing. But that was unfair of all of us. It turns out that it’s just because for whatever reason in the mid 2000’s people liked to listen to autotuned singing. It was a strange time. But I think with his performances he showed what he can truly do. Plus, he had the best performance of the night. Montell Jordan’s This is How We Do It? C’mon.
So, that’s it for season one of The Masked Singer. When we first heard about this show and learned what it was about…we were dubious. I mean, a bunch of famous people dressed like glammed up animals singing songs while four assorted panelists try to guess who they are? Sounds weird. But it works and the show has been a huge hit. I would say it is a genuine phenomenon. We cover these shows, but big national outlets were obsessed with the show. Sometimes you just want to watch something silly, drink a beer, and wonder who the hell the Peacock is, you know?
