Season 16 of The Voice is here, and we’ve added a few players to the mix. John Legend has arrived and his presence has been made known, as veteran coaches Kelly, Blake & Adam are threatened and have used two of their blocks on night one. The Voice welcomes Bebe Rexha as the Comeback
Gyth Riddon (Team Blake)
Starting the night off on a strong note, Gyth had nearly a four-chair turn to his performance of Drift Away, except for the fact that one of the veteran judges blocked John Legend. After much competition between Kelly, Adam, and Blake, the 24-year-old country singer went with Blake.
Maelyn Jarmon (Team John)
Performing to the song Fields of Gold brought this New Yorker a four chair turn which makes it for two in a row. Kelly calls her unstoppable and John tells her that she has magic in her voice. After hearing all coaches pitches and pleaded, she goes with our newest coach, John Legend.
Karen Galera (Team Kelly)
Performing her entire piece in Spanish had Kelly Clarkson turn right away. After getting halfway through the song, John Legend joined her. Kelly was so enthusiastic about Karen and said that she’s been waiting for an artist just like her. This leads Karen to choose Team Kelly.
Trey Rose (Team Adam)
This twenty-six year-old was inspired by Blake Shelton to pursue music after coming from Oklahoma. His performance of Wake Me Up had Adam turning around immediately,
Kim Cherry (Team Blake)
Singing her very own rendition of No Scrubs, Kim took this song to the next level when incorporating a rap in the middle. Kelly was a huge fan and was the first to turn around with Adam and Blake joining. Blake pitches his idea of the irony of a rapper and country coach being paired together and Kim goes for it. She says “I might regret this later but I pick Blake!”
Rizzi Myers (Team Kelly)
Rizzi is no stranger to the music industry as she’s a professional songwriter, but now she’s focusing her efforts as an artist. With another four-chair turn, John Legend is blocked yet again and this time, it’s Kelly who does the blocking. She is so adamant on having Rizzi on her team, and to her surprise, they’ve met before. Rizzi had a photo of the who of them when she was seventeen years old at a Kelly Clarkson concert. Needless to say, these two are a dynamic pair and Rizzi officially joined Team Kelly!
Lisa Ramey (Team John)
Lisa is the definition of persistence, as the judges recognized her from auditioning before. Fortunately for her, John Legend heard her talent when she performed the song Sex on Fire and turned his chair.
Jimmy Mowery (Team Adam)
Almost immediately, Adam turned his chair but noted that Jimmy had some nerves that would affect his performance. However, when he got comfortable, he was unstoppable which led John to turn for him as well. Ultimately, Jimmy went with the coach that turned around first and joined Team Adam.
Lili Joy (Team Blake)
This unique fifteen-year-old singer chose the Gwen Stefani song Cool and performed with a ukulele. To no surprise, Blake turned around and proved to America that he and Gwen are in fact still an item. However, he insures that he turned around for Lili because of her unique voice.
Matthew Johnson (Team John)
Ending on a high note with another four-chair turn. Matthew’s voice fills up a room and his performance to I Smile made every viewer do just that. Blake turned around first, then Adam, John, and Kelly followed. Ultimately, he picked the rookie coach and is on Team John Legend.
