WATCH ‘The Voice’ Recap: Tears Flow As The Top 13 Perform
Season 17 of The Voice continued Monday night, as the Top 13 performed songs dedicated to special people in their lives. Some of the performances even brought the artists and coaches to tears.
Voting is open until 7 a.m. on Tuesday. You can vote for your favorite artists on the Voice app or on the show’s website. You can also vote by streaming tonight’s performances on Apple Music. Two contestants will be eliminated in Tuesday’s results show.
‘The Voice’ Top 13 Perform
Joana Martinez (Team Gwen)
Joana performed “Get On Your Feet” by Gloria Estefan, in honor of her hometown of Miami and Cuban heritage. Her former coach Blake said she’s “in the right lane now,” and that she seemed “more comfortable than ever.” Gwen pointed out how difficult that song is, and said Joana was “incredible.”
Ricky Duran (Team Blake)
Ricky and his fellow team members got to rehearse in Nashville, at Blake’s bar Ole Red. He chose to sing “You Are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne, in honor of his girlfriend, who suffered a stroke. John said it feels like Ricky was “born” to be on stage. Blake remarked that people talk to him about Ricky wherever he goes.
Max Boyle (Team Kelly)
Max chose to sing “Unaware” by Allen Stone, dedicated to his niece and nephew. He said they give him a chance to be a big brother. During rehearsals, Kelly called him a “dark horse” in the competition. His former coach John said he has “charisma,” while Kelly said he’s “superhuman.”
Myracle Holloway (Team Gwen)
Myracle chose to perform “I’m Your Baby Tonight” by Whitney Houston, which she dedicated to her late grandmother, who raised her. Kelly called her a “champion” for covering such a difficult song. Gwen shared that Myracle panicked about doing the song, but Gwen convinced her to stick with it.
Will Breman (John Legend)
Will performed “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz, dedicated to his mom. He shared how his mom supported him when he was being bullied. John praised the “passion” and “emotion” that he showed, including feeling like he was “about to break” during the performance.
Kat Hammock (Team Blake)
Kat performed “Danny Boy” in honor of her late grandfather, who used to sing it in Gaelic. Gwen called her “magical” and predicted that she’ll have a record deal when the show is over. Blake called her “one of the most important artists” he’s ever worked with.
Katie Kadan (Team Legend)
Katie performed “I’m Goin’ Down” by Mary J. Blige, and dedicated it to “all the single ladies who’ve had their hearts broken.” Kelly shared that her mic pack fell off while she was rocking out to the performance. John said it was the best performance of the season so far.
Cali Wilson (Team Blake)
Cali chose to sing “Butterflies” by Kacey Musgraves, and dedicated it to her girlfriend. She called her “the light in the darkness” during a difficult time. Gwen said she would love to listen to her album. Blake called her voice “shockingly powerful.”
Shane Q (Team Kelly)
Shane performed “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts in honor of his mom, who he says worked hard for him and his sister. He even flew her out to watch the performance. Blake said it could make him a “frontrunner.” Kelly praised him for improving his stage presence, and called him “an incredible vocalist.”
Hello Sunday (Team Kelly)
This duo was voted as the wildcard last week. They performed “Mamma Knows Best” by Jessie J in honor of their parents. John called it their best performance on the show, saying it was “perfection.” Kelly said she doesn’t “understand” how they’re so talented.
Marybeth Byrd (Team Blake)
Marybeth sang “Go Rest High on That Mountain” by Vince Gill, dedicated to her grandfather, who passed away shortly before she left for the show. She credits him with inspiring her love for music. She broke down in tears during the performance. John said it was beautiful that she shared her grief, calling it a “wonderful performance.”
Jake Hoot (Team Kelly)
Jake chose to sing “Danny’s Song” by Loggins and Messina, in honor of his daughter. Gwen said she was waiting for him to perform a song like that. Kelly was brought to tears by his performance, saying Jake sounds like the musicians she “grew up on.”
Rose Short (Team Gwen)
Rose chose to sing “I Turn to You” by Christina Aguilera, and dedicated it to her coach, Gwen Stefani. Gwen said it “means everything” to her that Rose would honor her like that.
