Here’s The Voice‘s official announcement of the Battles Advisors next season:

We have our first all black advisors panel EVER on The Voice!

Plus, we have Usher returning to the show after last appearing as an advisor in season 8. There’s a familiar face from Songland and one from the upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars too!

These were the battle advisors for last time and do you see a difference?

Darius Rucker Is Blake Shelton’s Adviser

Lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker, will be advising Blake Shelton’s team. Hootie & the Blowfish has released five studio albums and charted six top 40 hits, most which Darius co-wrote himself. In addition to his work with the band, Darius has put out seven solo albums since 2002. He has won three Grammy awards and various country music awards as well throughout the years. Blake clearly picked a seasoned veteran to help advise his team!

Usher is John Legend’s Adviser

Longtime fans of The Voice definitely recognize this familiar face. It’s former coach Usher! I personally loved him as a coach so I’m excited to see what he brings to the table when he advises John Legend’s team. Where do I even start with Usher’s accomplishments? Nine number-one singles, 18 Hot 100 top-ten singles, eight studio albums, five world tours, EIGHT Grammys, 18 Billboard Music Awards, 8 American Music Awards…the list goes on! If you don’t know Usher for his singing, he also dances and wears some pretty fresh kicks on The Voice stage.

will.i.am is Gwen Stefani’s Adviser

For some crossover love, will.i.am’s recent hit “Be Nice” from Songland is a must-listen if you haven’t already heard it. But he’ll be helping coach Gwen Stefani advise her team on The Voice next season! will.i.am is a rapper, singer, songwriter, DJ, producer, actor, and lead member of The Black Eyed Peas. How does he even have time to be on The Voice too? He’s already been a coach on The Voice UK and The Voice Australia so this isn’t new territory for will.i.am. I’m sure he’ll be right at home as a Battles Advisor!

Normani is Kelly Clarkson’s Adviser

Fresh off her new single, “Motivation,” and the announcement she’ll be joining the Dancing With the Stars cast next season, Normani will be advising Team Kelly in the Battles. She is no stranger to talent competition shows! Normani got her start on The X Factor as a part of the girl group Fifth Harmony. She is a singer, songwriter, and dancer who has already been featured on two top-ten songs in her solo career. At only 23, she is by far the youngest Battles Advisor, but it will be fun to watch her work with Kelly Clarkson!

The Voice is finally getting Woke and we are here for it!

These past few seasons, we have seen a new trend on The Voice emerge as well. While country singers have long dominated the show, black country stars have been on the rise. Most notably, Kirk Jay finished in third place this past season. And if this trend continues, we could see a black country singer win the show before too long!

The Voice returns on Monday, September 23rd at 8/7c on NBC. But the Battles won’t start until quite a few weeks after that. Stay tuned for all the latest news on season 17 of The Voice!
