‘The Voice Kids’ Coaches Think This Singer Is A Girl, But Then …
The great thing about The Voice and The Voice Kids is that the coaches judge the auditions based only on the singer’s voice. Sometimes, they make incorrect assumptions based on what they hear.
For example, some of the coaches on The Voice Kids in the Netherlands thought young singer Ayoub Maach was a girl. However, they were surprised when he finally revealed himself.
Young Singer Auditions For ‘The Voice Kids’
For his audition on The Voice Kids in 2014, Ayoub performed “Jar of Hearts” by Christina Perri. Whereas the American version of the show lets the coaches see the artists as soon as they turn around, Ayoub was hidden by a wall until his performance was over, leaving his appearance a mystery.
Upon hearing Ayoub’s voice, host Martijn Krabbé assumed it was a girl singing, but Ayoub’s family (who was watching from backstage) wouldn’t answer one way or another.
Ayoub turned all the coaches’ chairs, showing off a powerhouse voice. After the performance, coach Angela Groothuizen said she thought it was a boy singing. The male coaches, however, seemed to think it was a girl. They were shocked when Ayoub revealed himself.
How Far Did Ayoub Get In The Competition?
Angela told Ayoub that his performance gave her goosebumps. “Your voice sounds so sensitive,” she said. Marco Borsato said he had never heard a voice like Ayoub’s in the competition. Ayoub chose to join Marco’s team.
Ayoub Maach ended up winning the entire season of The Voice Kids. In 2019, at 19 years old, he returned to the franchise by auditioning for The Voice of Holland. He sang “Say Something” for his blind audition.
