‘The Voice’ Holiday Celebration Revisits A ‘Special’ Performance For Blake & Gwen
On Thursday night, The Voice aired its first-ever holiday special, featuring past performances from coaches, artists, and celebrity guests. The night also included some fun commentary from this year’s coaches about holiday memories and traditions.
Obviously, there were some cute moments from newly engaged Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani. The night opened with a performance from Gwen’s first season on the show, also featuring Adam Levine and Pharrell.
Blake And Gwen Sing On ‘The Voice’ Holiday Special
In Season 7 of The Voice, the coaches came together to perform “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” This was Gwen Stefani’s first season on the show, as well as the season when she met her now-fiancé Blake Shelton.
After the performance aired, Blake and Gwen commented on their memories of it. Blake pointed out that it was his first season with both Gwen and Pharrell, and shared how “important” that performance was, considering how those relationships (“especially Gwen and I”) have developed since then. Gwen, meanwhile, called it a “really special” performance.
During the show, the coaches also talked about who among them is the best at giving gifts. Kelly seemed to win that contest, but Gwen also cheekily remarked that Blake is a good gift-giver. Anyone who’s seen her engagement ring would have to agree.
Gwen Tells A Funny Story About Blake’s Gift-Giving
Blake’s gift-giving skills apparently aren’t 100 percent fool-proof, according to the funny story Gwen told during the show. The coaches were asked about their most memorable Christmas gifts, and Gwen replied that Blake had given her a horse saddle.
However, Gwen ended up falling off the horse, so it didn’t work out so well. She and Blake laughed together about the anecdote. But Gwen didn’t mention that the horse was apparently a gift from Blake as well — not just the saddle.
“We got her horse and I got myself a horse at the same time,” Blake told Entertainment Tonight in 2016. “Gwen, she loves riding and she loves horses. It’s actually so funny that people are so shocked by that, but if you can name me one girl on the planet that doesn’t love horses or just think that they are beautiful…”
The special ended with Blake and Gwen’s performance of “You Make It Feel Like Christmas” from Season 13 of the show. Check out more memorable holiday performances from The Voice in the video above.
