The Voice battles for Season 18 kicked off on Monday night. This year’s battle advisors are Bebe Rexha (Team Blake), Dua Lipa (Team Kelly), the Jonas Brothers (Team Nick), and Ella Mai (Team Legend).

This season, each coach gets one save (from their own team) and one steal (from another coach’s team) during the battles. The four saves will go into a new four-way knockout round.

Confused? You’re not the only one. At one point tonight, coach Kelly Clarkson actually got the rules mixed up and missed out on a steal. Check out all of this week’s battles below.

Joei Fulco vs. Todd Michael Hall (Team Blake)

Blake Shelton paired these two together because of their similar rock styles. They performed “The Best” by Tina Turner. John Legend said he was reminded of why he wanted Todd on his team, while Nick Jonas compared the performance to “ten shots of caffeine.” Blake chose Joei as the winner of the battle but chose to save Todd. Meanwhile, Kelly tried to steal him but wasn’t fast enough. She thought she had to wait until he left the stage, but it was actually the opposite.

Anaya Cheyenne vs. Chelle (Team Kelly)

Kelly Clarkson assigned these two singers to perform “Scared to Be Lonely” by Dua Lipa, who happened to be their battle advisor. Nick said he wasn’t as confident as Anaya when he was her age, and he was already famous at that point. Kelly chose Anaya as the winner of the battle. None of the coaches chose to steal or save Chelle.

Joanna Serenko vs. Roderick Chambers (Team Nick)

Nick said he wanted to see these two singers put an R&B spin on Billie Eilish’s “When the Party’s Over.” Kelly said it was her favorite battle so far, calling it “effortless and beautiful and passionate.” Nick said this is the toughest decision he’s ever had to make, but ultimately chose Roderick as the winner. John chose to steal Joanna.

Mike Jerel vs. Zach Day (Team Legend)

John paired these two up because they’re both “soulful singers with big ranges.” They performed Miguel’s “Adorn.” Nick called it a “true battle,” while Kelly asked John, “Why did you do this?” John said he was initially concerned about their confidence, but they pulled it off. He ultimately chose Mike as the winner. None of the coaches chose to save or steal Zach.

Jamal Corrie vs. Levi Watkins (Team Blake)

These two predicted they would be paired in the Voice battles when they practiced together during auditions. Jamal said he saw Levi as a “brother” to him. Blake paired them up to sing “Counting Stars” by OneRepublic. John said they were “so fun to watch,” and said he was waiting for Levi to mess up, but he didn’t. Blake chose Levi as the winner. None of the coaches chose to steal or save Jamal.

Michael Williams vs. Allegra Miles (Team Nick)

These two singers paired up to perform the Sam Smith version of Whitney Houston’s “How Will I Know.” The Jonas Brothers said they sounded like they’ve been singing together for years. Kelly said she was “in love” with Allegra’s voice. Nick chose Allegra as the winner of this battle, but chose to save Michael.
