The Person We Love To Hate. Who Is Simon Cowell?
Popular for being a reality TV judge, Simon Cowell is globally acclaimed for his contribution in the field of arts and entertainment. Apart from being a great reality TV judge, he is also a producer and an entrepreneur. Simon Phillip Cowell has also earned the reputation of being a philanthropist.
Simon was born on October 7th 1959 in Britain. He is from London and his father, Eric Phillip Cowell, was an executive in the music industry and his mother was Julie Brett, a ballet dancer. He has one brother and many half-siblings. He attended the Radlett Preparatory School and Dover College, but he dropped out before the completion of his education. Simon Cowell has always had an inclination and interest towards the film and music industry.
He is widely recognized as one of the most insensitive and rude judges. Some simply explain his rudeness as a strategic act in front of the cameras while others claim his behavior is an actual reflection of his personality, even off the camera, and dates back to his teenage years.
He started his career in the music industry in the mail-room at EMI Music Publishing. He sabotaged numerous job interviews, faced problems with colleagues on the sets of The Shining, (where he was working as a runner), due to his ill-tempered behavior.
In 1979, he became an assistant to an A&R executive. That’s when his career really started to take off. Simon’s popularity grew after he judged various reality TV shows, such as American Idol, The X Factor and Pop Idol. The audiences instantly took to his witty and sarcastic remarks, (and insults), on the shows. He has a huge following on social media, as high as 13 million followers on Twitter and nearly 3 million on Facebook.
Today, Simon is the owner of Syco, a TV and music production house, founded in 2002. Over the years he has produced and co-produced numerous shows. In 2010 he was awarded the BAFTA Special Award for his contribution to the TV and Entertainment industry. While his rise to prominence was as a judge on Pop Idol and American Idol, he turned into a big name executive producer himself, creating The X Factor, The X Factor USA, Britain’s Got Talent, and America’s Got Talent with his production company SyCo TV.
Looking at his personal life, Simon has known to have a hard time being faithful to his partners and has admitted as much. There are at least 9 ex-girfriends and perhaps more if you counts the rumors.
His latest girlfriend, Lauren Silverman, was married to his best friend, billionaire Andrew Silverman, when the news broke that she was pregnant with Simon’s child. He literally stole his friends wife and got her pregnant. He later admitted in a candid interview with The Sun that: “I’m not proud of the circumstances, I can’t hold my head up about it.”
Fast forward to this year, Simon seems to be a very happy and proud father to their son Eric Cowell.
Simon the philanthropist supports many charities working towards the betterment of underprivileged children and has also appeared in a PETA video. In 2004 and 2010 he was recognized as one of the ‘100 most influential people’ by the American Magazine.
