The Biggest Talent Show Controversy Of 2019 Is…
The year is almost up, which means it’s time for the Talent Recap Fan Choice Awards! This is your opportunity to share your favorite contestants, judges, hosts, and moments from the year in talent shows.
Let’s take a look back at some of the biggest controversies on talent shows this year. There was quite a bit of drama, both backstage and on-screen, during this year’s competitions. But what was the most controversial story of all?
Biggest Talent Show Controversy 2019
Sean Spicer On ‘DWTS’
As soon as the cast list for the latest season of Dancing with the Stars was announced, there was backlash against the inclusion of Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. Even host Tom Bergeron took issue with it. President Trump ended up encouraging people to vote for Sean, which arguably sent him further than he deserved, based on his low scores.
‘Survivor’ Sexual Harassment Scandal
This season of the CBS series Survivor has reignited conversations about the #MeToo movement and sexual harassment. Kellee Kim accused fellow contestant Dan Spiro of inappropriately touching her and other women. Production got involved, and Dan apologized. But the scandal deepened when Kellee was voted off, and two women who had supported her claims said they embellished their stories.
Gabrielle Union’s Firing From ‘AGT’
Reports that Gabrielle Union was fired from AGT for speaking out against a “toxic culture” on set have angered many fans. The judge was reportedly let go after speaking up against racist comments. Gabrielle has since met with NBC about the issues, and an investigation has been launched. Julianne Hough is also leaving the show, but she has not taken a clear side in the matter.
Simon Cowell’s New Look (Yes, it was a Talent Show Controversy too!)
When the AGT live shows started earlier this year, fans noticed something different about judge Simon Cowell’s face. His new look was the talk of Twitter, and most people weren’t very complimentary. Simon claims he’s lost weight because of a new vegan diet, but others suspect there’s been some plastic surgery involved as well. Take a look for yourself.
Dimash Leaving ‘The World’s Best’
Dimash Kudaibergen, a singer from Kazakhstan, took The World’s Best by storm earlier this year. However, he ended up quitting the competition because he said he didn’t want to compete against children. Judges Faith Hill and RuPaul objected to the decision, saying he was disrespecting the show and knew what he was getting into when he started.
Adam Levine Leaving ‘The Voice’
In May, longtime The Voice coach Adam Levine announced that he was quitting the show. His replacement, Gwen Stefani, was revealed at the same time. Considering Adam’s dwindling track record in recent seasons, his departure didn’t come as too much of a surprise. The show just finished Season 17, the first without Adam in a coaching chair.
