Teen Opera Singers Prove Simon Cowell WRONG On ‘BGT’ [VIDEO]

The judges on shows like BGT and AGT can sometimes be too quick to judge an act before they hear them perform. Take, for example, teenage opera singers Charlotte and Jonathan.
Charlotte, 16, and Jonathan, 17, auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent in 2012. Judge Simon Cowell was clearly not expecting anything good when they first walked out, but the singers soon proved him wrong.
‘BGT’ Opera Singers Shock Simon Cowell
“Just when you think things couldn’t get any worse,” Simon whispered to fellow BGT judge Carmen Electra when Charlotte and Jonathan first walked onto the stage. While asking the pair questions, he pointed out that Jonathan didn’t say much, asking if he was shy.

During his pre-audition interview, Jonathan shared that he’s always had “problems with my size,” and was bullied in school, which affected his confidence. He said Charlotte helped him be a “better performer.”
Simon seemed rather dismissive of the pair as he wished them luck, but Charlotte and Jonathan went on to prove him wrong. They performed “The Prayer,” and shocked the audience with their incredible voices. The judges ended up giving them a standing ovation.
Simon Suggests The Duo Should Split Up
Simon told Charlotte that she was “good,” but added that Jonathan is “unbelievable.” He told him he’ll be “a future star,” but worried that Charlotte might hold him back. However, Jonathan made it clear that they would continue as a duo.
During the votes, Simon said his head told him Jonathan should “dump her,” but his heart said they have something “magical” together, so he voted yes to the pair. Jonathan and Charlotte received four “yes” votes to move on.

The duo ended up being runners-up in Season 6 of BGT. Even though they didn’t win, Simon Cowell offered them a £1 million record deal. They went on to release two albums together before separating in 2014 to pursue solo efforts.
