Earlier this week, the years-long feud between Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian, and Kanye West was reignited on social media. Now Taylor’s longtime publicist is weighing in on the drama, and she brought receipts.
The disagreement dates back to 2016 when Kim posted a video of a phone call between Taylor and Kanye about his song “Famous,” which includes a not-so-flattering reference to Swift. A longer version of the phone call recently leaked, bringing life back to the feud.
Taylor Swift’s Publicist Fires Back At Kim Kardashian
Taylor argued that she never gave permission for Kanye to call her a “bitch” in the song. Fans believe the recent leak proves she was telling the truth. On Monday, Kim took to Twitter to shoot down this suggestion.
Kim claimed that her “only issue” with Taylor was that she supposedly “lied through her publicist” about whether she and Kanye spoke. According to Kim, Taylor’s rep at the time stated, “Kanye never called to ask for permission…”
However, Taylor’s publicist Tree Paine (who’s reportedly worked with Taylor since 2014) responded to this claim by showing her full, “UNEDITED” statement on Twitter.
How Has Taylor Responded To The New Drama?
“Kanye did not call for approval,” reads the statement Tree Paine posted, “but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on her Twitter account.” This does indeed seem to acknowledge that a conversation occurred between them, while saying it was for different reasons than Kanye and Kim claimed.
Tree added that “when you take parts out, that’s editing.” This is perhaps in reference to Kim’s claim that she “never edited the footage” of Kanye and Taylor’s phone call.
On Instagram Stories earlier this week, Taylor Swift referred to the call as being “illegally recorded, that somebody edited and manipulated in order to frame me and put me, my family and fans through hell for 4 years.” She then encouraged fans to donate to the World Health Organization and Feeding America during the coronavirus pandemic.
