‘BGT’ Favorite Susan Boyle Will Reportedly Compete On ‘AGT: The Champions’
America’s Got Talent: The Champions starts filming later this week, and as the contestants head to LA from around the world, we’re bound to find out who some of them are sooner rather than later. For instance, multiple media outlets are already reporting the involvement of one Britain’s Got Talent fan-favorite: Susan Boyle!
Susan became an internet sensation back in 2009 when she first auditioned for Series 3 of BGT. The judges – including Simon Cowell – didn’t take the Scottish singer seriously at first due to her frumpy appearance, but once she started her rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables they were speechless. If you’ve never seen the jaw-dropping moment, check it out below!
The clip went viral immediately after it aired, and Susan went on to place second in that year’s competition, losing out on the top prize to dance troupe Diversity. But her audition is still one of the most iconic moments in reality TV history, and she still remains one of the Got Talent franchise’s most well-known alumni nearly a decade later.
Since her time on BGT, Susan has gone on tour, released seven studio albums, and even starred in her own television special. Her autobiography, The Woman I Was Born To Be, came out in 2010, and a jukebox stage musical based on the book was produced in 2012. She’s also faced a few challenges in her personal life, such as being diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome after believing she had a learning disability for many years, and being the victim of teenage gang torment.
I’m very interested to see how Susan fares on AGT: The Champions. Simon certainly seems to have a soft spot for her, which is usually a plus, and as one of the more well-known acts from an international version of the show, she may be one of the top hopes for someone from outside AGT to go far. (I’m concerned that if there is a voting element – even if it’s just the studio audience – acts coming from a non-American branch of the franchise are going to be at a disadvantage since the audience will most likely be more attached to acts they’ve already seen in the past.)
America’s Got Talent: The Champions will air on NBC in January and February 2019. The show will feature beloved acts from Got Talent shows from across the globe in order to determine which of them is the “best of the best”.
