Don’t get blindsided! Endemol Shine, the company responsible for TV shows such as The Voice, Big Brother, MasterChef, and Black Mirror has been purchased by French production company Banijay Group! While this may not seem like a big deal, this has huge implications on the global TV landscape.

Banijay Group and Endemol Shine were considered rivals before the purchase, with many of their shows competing with each other. Banijay is known for producing shows such as Wife Swap, The Real World, and Keeping Up With the Kardashians. However, Banijay also bought Survivor‘s production company, Castaway TV Productions in 2017. So, this means that all of these reality shows are now owned by the same company!

Survivor and Big Brother Monopoly?

With all of these shows under one roof, the question of a monopoly has came up. Its understandable, with so many shows in a particular genre now owned by the same group. In fact, according to Variety, Banijay will have a bigger catalog of shows then both BBC and ITV.

However, many shows on US TV are not owned by Banijay. For example, The Masked Singer, Dancing with the Stars, and Bring the Funny are all owned by different companies. (Catch up with DWTS here!) Based on that, it doesn’t seem like this will create a monopoly, but it will create a much stronger company.

Details of the Deal

According to The Wrap, the deal is worth $2.2 Billion. However, while this may seem like a steep price, it’s estimated that they will earn $3.3 billion in revenue by the end of the year. Maybe they can use that money to pay Survivor players!

Endemol was previously half-owned by Disney, who bought the rights from their purchase of Fox last year. The deal will include all 120 of Endemol Shine’s production labels.

So, how will this deal affect Survivor? Tune into CBS at 8/7 Central on Wednesday to find out! Also, find out what SURPRISING song is Taylor Swift’s favorite by clicking here!
