Singer Returns For A Second Chance To Impress Simon Cowell — Major Fight Was Not In Her Plan! [VIDEO]
ITV Gifty Louise Agyeman first auditioned for season 12 of The X Factor in 2015. Her luck ran out when she reached the Bootcamp phase of the competition. But she didn’t give up and returned in 2016 for a second shot at winning the competition.
Gifty Louise Agyeman Returned To ‘The X Factor’ And Impressed Simon Cowell
When she auditioned the first time around, Gifty lost her voice before her performance in Bootcamp. This second audition showed that she was more determined than ever to prove her family wrong after they encouraged her to try another profession. For this redemption audition, Gifty performed “No More Drama” by Mary J. Blige. “Your voice is great and you have a great look,” Mel B said. But she did advise her to push herself even more.

“I think you’re very good,” Simon Cowell said. “You’ve got a great energy about you Gifty.” Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne agreed that Gifty had something special. “Gifty sometimes when you come back a second time you know it’s probably a good thing, I think you could be someone maybe to watch” Simon added. She was voted through to the next round of the competition and eventually went on to the Judges’ Houses phase mentored by Simon. He was such a big fan of hers that he decided to put her through to the live shows.
During the live shows, Gifty put on some dynamite performances each week. However, she was notoriously remembered after she was heard cursing on live television. When host Dermot O’Leary announced the results during week three of the competition, Gifty dropped an F-bomb. This caused some outrage for viewers at home who feel like it was inappropriate for a family show. She landed in the bottom three the following week and lost the sing-off which eliminated her from the competition.
Gifty Spoke Out About Her Negative Experience On The Show And Called Out The Judges
After her elimination from The X Factor, Gifty explained how angry she was at Nicole Scherzinger. Nicole had given Gifty a standing ovation after her sing-off performance but then voted to eliminate her.
“I was a little bit surprised. On Xtra Factor Nicole kind of turned around and said ‘Gifty shouldn’t have gone home,’ but you voted for me to go out..?” she later commented about her elimination. She went on to say that she thinks the judges were being too tactical with their decisions instead of basing their decisions on vocal performances.
Gifty was also disappointed about the fact that she covered three songs by Fifth Harmony during her time on the show due to suggestions made by Simon. “If I’d opened my mouth to speak I would have just let it all out and cried. I think I do have a resting b*** face. I honestly just can’t help it” she said.
In 2020, after one contestant accused judge Tulisa of demonstrating racist behavior, Gifty tweeted that she experienced the same thing. “Lol you guys thought Tulisa was bad. Nicole Scherzinger was the worst” Gifty tweeted.
She said that the producers encouraged her to portray stereotypes but she let them have it. “‘Aggressive’, ‘Diva,’ ‘Overconfident’, Some of the many names they use to cover up their racism. I remember when I was so excited when I made it on the show … big fat LOL” she said on her Instagram story.

Gifty is currently in Ghana and posted on Instagram that 2020 is her “year of growth and glow.”
