Simon Cowell’s Response To ‘The Masked Singer UK’ Threat

Is The Masked Singer a threat to Simon Cowell’s TV reign in the UK? TV host Jonathan Ross certainly thinks so. He’s judging the new British version of the celebrity singing competition, and he had some choice words about how it compares with shows like The X Factor.
The Masked Singer, which originated in South Korea, has certainly been a hit in the United States, as viewers tune in to guess which of their favorite stars are singing under those crazy costumes. Now the UK is getting in on the popularity.
‘The Masked Singer’ vs. ‘The X Factor’
The Masked Singer had two seasons on American TV in 2019, and a third is already on the way. Now the UK is premiering its own version of the show, set to debut this weekend on ITV.
NEW ‘MASKED SINGER’ UK VERSION TAKING OVER X FACTOR!?
The network snagged American Masked Singer judge Ken Jeong to join the panel across the pond, along with Rita Ora, Davina McCall, and Jonathan Ross. Ross spoke to the Mirror about how he thinks X Factor boss Simon Cowell will react to the new show.
“I think he’ll think ‘wow, that’s a great format, I wish I had that format’. I know he felt that way about The Voice,” Jonathan said. “I actually really like Simon Cowell and he’s a smart man. When he sees something good on TV, he’ll think, ‘That’s a smart idea, how can I improve my shows so they’re as good as that?’ Unfortunately, this format idea is taken Simon.”
Davina McCall, meanwhile, pointed out how The Masked Singer differs from X Factor, saying, “It’s not mean and it’s not a competition. It’s a guessing game, not a talent contest.”
What is Simon Cowell’s Response?
You think he’ll just give up? Nah, Simon isn’t a quitter. He might revamp X Factor or threaten ITV to take away ‘Britain’s Got Talent‘ from the network. It is not beneath him to do either but even at 60, Simon isn’t ready to give up just yet. He created the entire Champions franchise after World’s Best was announced. Remember the show that promised an Olympics of talent from all over the world? Yeah it ended after the first season and AGT: Champions is airing its second second on Monday.
Simon Cowell’s response is real simple, don’t respond at all. He actually already responded and it’s called X Factor: Celebrity. Did it work as well as the Champions did? Read on!

Is Simon Cowell’s ‘X Factor’ Over?
The Masked Singer UK isn’t the only thing spelling the end for The X Factor. Last year Simon decided to mix up the format, but the ratings seem to suggest that viewers are tired of the franchise.
The regular season of the show was put on hold, and two spin-offs aired — The X Factor: Celebrity and The X Factor: The Band. Another show, called The X Factor: All-Stars, was also announced, but plans for that were apparently axed.
‘X FACTOR: THE BAND’ HAS FANS FURIOUS EVEN BEFORE IT AIRS!
Could The Masked Singer‘s impending success be the reason Simon added Nicole Scherzinger to the panels of both X Factor editions this year? After all, she’s a judge on the American version of the show, and is familiar to a UK audience. She may have been The Masked Singer‘s first choice before Ken Jeong.
Considering the recent drama with AGT, Simon Cowell’s 2020 doesn’t look to be off to a great start. We’ll have to wait and see if this is the beginning of the end for him.
