Simon Cowell Says NO to Former ‘Idol’ And ‘Voice’ Contestants On ‘AGT’
“It’s a no from me,” — The dreaded words that send contestants reeling from the one and only Simon Cowell. The music mogul uttered these exact sentiments to former American Idol and The Voice contestants on the AGT stage. [Scroll down to see the video]
Former Idol and Voice contestants are a shoe in for AGT…right? WRONG! In fact, former contestants have more to prove when stepping on the AGT stage.
AGT viewers have taken notice of the extreme love for vocalists on the show, ESPECIALLY when it comes to the golden buzzer. However, that was not the case when it came to Samuel Swanson (Idol) and Sophia Bollman (The Voice). The proof is in the pudding and Simon isn’t easily impressed (DUH!).
Samuel Swanson set his sites on a dream by way of New York City and a golden ticket. The then 28-year-old performed Let’s Stay Together by Al green for a spot on the American Idol cast. Luke Bryan was an immediate fan gushing, “Velvet, velvet, and then layered with silky velvet is what your voice is.” Similarly judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie sang their praises and sent Swanson to Hollywood.
Swanson was ultimately eliminated from the 16th season of Idol after group rounds. The Alabama native had another opportunity to turn his dreams into reality on the AGT stage, but Simon had different ideas.
After Swanson’s performance Simon chalked his talents up to the likes of a karaoke performance…OUCH! Equally important, Howie Mandel said he loved what Swanson did. Simon and Howie will just have to agree to disagree on this one.
Sophia Bollman aka Blake Shelton’s Daughter
Sophia Bollman aka Blake Shelton’s daughter (find out how she gained that name here) joined Team Miley for season 13 of The Voice. Ultimately Bollman was eliminated in the Battle Rounds of the competition after losing to fellow vocalist Brooke Simpson.
Bollman can’t be tamed and decided to shoot her shot on the AGT stage.
“I like your personality, I like your voice, but I’m not gonna lie to you… as a solo artist it’s not going to work,” Simon said post performance. The AGT frontman felt Bollman would fare better in a music group. Check out the clip below.
