We all know how much Simon Cowell loves dog acts. In 2017, he was wowed by Sara and Hero’s audition, in which they showed off some complex choreography that had the audience cheering.

However, not all the judges were as impressed as Simon. “I didn’t see one amazing trick,” Howie Mandel said, and Mel B agreed, encouraging them to switch things up next time.

Simon couldn’t believe they didn’t like it. “I don’t think they quite understood what you just did,” he told Sara. Howie and Mel both voted no, leading to boos from the audience as Sara teared up. This led Simon to stand up and join her on stage.

“I’ve never done this before, but I’m asking you, on behalf of Sara and Hero,” he said. “Trust me on this. I saw something you didn’t see.” It was enough for Howie to change his vote to yes. Along with Heidi’s and Simon’s “yes” votes, that sent the act through to the next round.

What Happened After ‘America’s Got Talent’?

Sara and Hero placed fifth on America’s Got Talent Season 12, and later returned for AGT: The Champions in 2019. Sara shared how much AGT changed her life, saying that at the time of her first audition she was traveling the country living in her car.

“Now we have a house,” she shared. “We’ve settled down a little bit.” She also works with more dogs than just Hero. Her Super Collies also include Marvel, Groot, Hawkeye, and Fury.

For their Champions performance, Sara and Hero played bank robbers. They received a standing ovation from all four judges. Unfortunately, the act didn’t receive enough votes to move on in the competition.

Where Are Sara And Hero Now?

After appearing on Champions, Sara got married fellow dog trainer John Devine in June 2019. During the wedding reception, Sara and Hero performed a dance routine set to “Footloose.” Hero even had a bow tie!

“Everyone was so excited to see Hero perform. I own five dogs and Hero is the most special of them all,” Sara said. “I had always hoped he would be around for the big day and it truly made it special being able to perform with him.”

In 2018, Hero broke the Guinness world record for “most tricks performed by a dog in one minute,” almost doubling his previous best. He performed 49 tricks in just 60 seconds!

However, Hero is getting older now, and he’ll soon be retiring. He’s currently competing in the Hero Dog Awards. You can follow Sara’s journey training her other dogs on the Super Collies Instagram account.
