Tyler Butler-Figueroa Impressed Simon Cowell On ‘AGT’
Tyler was just 11 years old when he auditioned for America’s Got Talent wearing some awesome light up shoes. He started playing the violin when he was seven years old after being bullied in school. Tyler shared his story about surviving cancer and how his classmates would laugh at him and make fun of him for being different. The children spread rumors that Tyler’s cancer was contagious and all stayed away from him. Tyler took up playing the violin after seeing a flier for free violin lessons at school. He performed a rendition of Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” that had everybody up on their feet during his audition. “I’m feeling really proud of myself,” Tyler said after his performance. He also announced he has been in remission for almost four years at the time after undergoing chemotherapy.
Simon called Tyler an “extraordinary young man.” He said that “most people are bullied because they are better than the people that bully them.” Simon hit his Golden Buzzer sending Tyler into a pool of tears into the live shows. Tyler soared into the finale after fantastic and inspirational performances each and every week and was eliminated just before the top five. He definitely was one of the frontrunners of the entire competition. He returned for ‘AGT: The Champions’ with an iconic version of “Old Town Road.” Once again, Tyler made it to the finale and finished the competition in third place in what is now known as one of the most amazing America’s Got Talent stories of all time.
