2019 was a poor and tedious year for ‘The X Factor’. With two spin-off shows at record lows in viewing ratings, it was a clear indicator that audiences need a good break from the show. As a result, plans for The X Factor to return this year have been scrapped, a source says.

Speaking on Simon Cowell‘s plan to halt production on The X Factor, a source mentions that the show is adamant on ‘resting it this year’:
‘Simon wants to really think through the show and how to reinvigorate it for the future. Although The X Factor is contracted for one more series, ITV totally understand the rationale behind the idea of resting it this year and want to give Simon and the team the time to do what they feel is right.’

Even Simon’s plans to introduce a two-part spin-off concept to re-brand the show failed. Both ‘Celebrity’ and ‘The Band’ underperformed and produced the worst viewing ratings the show has EVER seen. So, it’s no surprise that Simon and the team behind the show need to begin serious negotiations into its future.
The production company behind ‘The X Factor’ is currently focused on the filming of Britain’s Got Talent, set to return to our screens this April.

Although any luck with The X Factor would take a miracle, Cowell’s famous ‘Got Talent’ format continues to bring success. His ‘Champions’ spin-off show has been a hit in both the UK and the USA. If anything, BGT & AGT, shows Cowell appears on are fuelling his continued global TV legacy.
