Simon Cowell kicked off X Factor: The Band with a bit of controversy Monday night. His comments to a teenage auditioner about her outfit sparked anger on social media.

It’s not a good look for Simon, who is already under fire over the recent drama surrounding Gabrielle Union’s AGT exit. Twitter decided to “cancel” him last week, and this latest flub isn’t doing him any favors.

Simon Cowell Criticizes ‘X Factor’ Singer’s Outfit

Rosie Bragg is an 18-year-old Instagram star. She auditioned for X Factor: The Band to Rihanna’s “Love on the Brain.” The song’s writer, Fred Ball, just so happened to be in the room, which Rosie didn’t realize.

Rosie delivered a strong performance that impressed Fred, as well as Nicole Scherzinger. Simon, meanwhile, told her his “only criticism” was her image, which he said was “what we see on Instagram all the time.”

As he handed Rosie her acceptance onto the show, Simon told her, “Next time we see you, you don’t have to come with an image. You know that?” She responded, “This is how I dress normally.”

“I’m the last person to give fashion advice,” Simon admitted. And yet he still felt the need to comment. A 60-year-old man telling an 18-year-old girl how she should dress doesn’t look great.

Twitter Drags Simon For His ‘X Factor’ Comment

Many viewers on Twitter were not happy about Simon’s comments to Rosie about her image. Some argued that Rosie should be able to wear what she wants, while others pointed out that Simon can’t keep acting like this in 2019.

One user even suggested that contestants’ looks and style are more important to Simon than their talent. Another even pointed out that wearing “flamboyant clothes” don’t mean an artist doesn’t “know themselves.”
