‘Saturday Night Live’ Spoofed ‘America’s Got Talent’ This Weekend And It Was Hilarious

Saturday Night Live paid tribute to America’s Got Talent over the weekend…in parody-form, of course.
The sketch focused on the repetitiveness of one of AGT‘s signature audition tropes: the ol’ bait-and-switch. One thing we can always count on when watching the hit summer show are acts who come out looking like average Joe’s (or Jane’s) but end up delivering mind-blowing performances.
In addition to the “auditions” in the sketch, they also showed clips of some real-life examples from the actual show, including Vicki Barbolak and Christina Wells from this past season. Check it out below!

After the sketch aired, some AGT fans noted that the concept was questionably similar to a video YouTuber Gus Johnson uploaded back in the summer titled “Every Episode Of America’s Got Talent”, which basically made the same joke in 30 seconds. We’ll probably never know if SNL got the idea from the video in question, but I must say I think I found this one to be funnier, probably because of the completely over-the-top reactions from the “judges.”
Whichever version of this joke you prefer, I think we can all agree the trope is one we see a lot of on America’s Got Talent (and reality TV in general) but probably won’t be going away anytime soon. After all, audiences love a good underdog story!
