Salma Hayek Reveals Deepest Insecurities & How Going Makeup-Free Takes Away Her Need To ‘Impress’

Salma Hayek Reveals Insecurities
Salma Hayek recently told People magazine about her insecurities, sharing an experience that a lot of us can probably relate to when we look back at ourselves in the past.

“When I look at pictures of me in my 30s or in my 40s, I see myself more beautiful than I saw myself at the time,” Salma told the magazine. “I used to criticize myself so much. Now when I look in the mirror and there are things that I don’t see, I think about how much I’m going to like me in 10 years.”
Although Salma has been wearing makeup and applying it to others since she was a teenager, she says getting dolled up is just a “fun activity” now, and she prefers to do other things than sit in a makeup chair.
“Normally, when you don’t [wear makeup], it’s because you’re in a situation where you don’t feel the pressure to look your best,” Salma shared. “There’s a sense of just being present without needing to impress anyone.”
Why Salma Loves Going Makeup-Free
In a video for People, Salma spoke more about why she loves going makeup-free. “My favorite days are the days that you’re not wearing makeup, and you’re not looking in the mirror because you’re not thinking about how you look,” she said. “You’re just present and you’re just doing your thing.”

A lot of us can probably relate to this feeling as we’re staying home more during the coronavirus pandemic. And Salma also isn’t putting pressure on herself to be productive during this time.
“At the beginning of the quarantine I felt like I have to take advantage of this time — be very productive in the house, or exercise, or meditate extra,” she explained. “But then I realized that I was already having a lot of expectations and pressure on accomplishing a lot in this time.”
