Preacher Lawson Discusses Life After ‘America’s Got Talent’

One of the breakout stars from this past season of America’s Got Talent was comedian Preacher Lawson. His bizarre comedy stylings made it all the way to the finals. We even forgive him for making fun of us on the red carpet with our correspondent Jackie Shultz.
Preacher was a struggling stand-up in LA when he landed a spot on the show. It was looking for a while there like he was a contender to win. Of course, Darci Lynne Farmer eventually was victorious but Preacher performed with her at her Las Vegas show. Preacher is now booked at comedy clubs through the summer and the show truly launched his career. He said,
“It’s been insane. It’s changed my entire life. On one of the episodes of ‘America’s Got Talent,’ I couldn’t even afford a haircut. I’m doing way better now. I’m super blessed. It was incredible — I skipped like five years. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made in my life. I never really was stressed out. Most people were stressed out. I got on the show, I won. Getting to the live shows, ‘Oh, this is great.’ I got to the semifinals, I was like: ‘What?’ I got to the finals, I wasn’t planning to get to the finals. It was icing on the cake. I did a crazy amount of shows. I was definitely energized by the fact my life was changing. I was exhausted, but you couldn’t tell on television.”
That’s awesome to hear. Many of these reality talent show acts end up not being able to translate their success on the show to a successful career after it’s all over. It looks like Preacher is going to make us laugh for a long time to come.
