ABC and their parent company Disney is having a bit of a hard time attracting talent to be judges on their reboot of the classic talent show American Idol. That’s because they blew most of their $40 million talent budget on Katy Perry and Ryan Seacrest. The solution: offer them lucrative Disney deals.
It’s a smart compromise. No more money comes from the American Idol budget directly but the potential judge could still make a mountain of cash by teaming up with the empire the Mouse built. That includes production deals, merchandising, and of course amusement park partnerships. So, let’s say that rumored potential judge Lionel Richie comes on the project. Disney would them offer to name a ride at the park after him and give him a cut of ticket sales. We could be seeing a “Lionel Richie’s Ride From Hell-o Coaster: It’s once, twice, three times a thrill ride!”
Rumor has it that Disney is already in talks with Luke Bryan which includes one of these Disney perks. It would be a good incentive to just give people free tickets and hotel stays in the park. Have you seen how much those trips cost now? You could take a cruise to Europe for less money.
