Opera-Singing Cab Driver STUNS The ‘AGT’ Judges With His Voice [VIDEO]
One of the most memorable AGT auditions in history came from Carlos De Antonis, an opera-singing cab driver who blew the judges away with his voice in Season 12.
Carlos was brought to tears by the judges’ reaction to his performance. Check out his amazing audition in the video below, and read on to learn more about this incredible singer.
Carlos De Antonis Auditions For ‘AGT’
Carlos shared before his audition that he worked as a cab driver in Miami, but his dream was to perform in Las Vegas. He shared his motto, “It doesn’t matter where you are, this is your stage.”
He told the judges that he sang for his taxi passengers all the time, and one of them suggested he should audition for AGT. “I wish you good luck, and I hope that person was right,” judge Heidi Klum told him.
Carlos went on to perform “Nessun dorma” from the opera Turandot. His powerful voice left the AGT judges with their mouths open, and Howie Mandel even stood up for Carlos before the performance was over.
At one point, Carlos closed his eyes and reached his arm forward, prompting Howie to comment, “His hand’s still on the steering wheel.” By the end of the performance, all four judges were on their feet.
What Did The Judges Think Of Carlos’ Performance?
After his performance, Carlos broke down in tears over the reaction of the judges and audience. He motioned that he was giving them his heart, to which Heidi said, “We’re supposed to be throwing flowers at you!”
“You are so giving,” Howie told Carlos, while Mel B called it “brilliant.” All four AGT judges voted yes to sending Carlos through to the next round. “Everybody in America right now is saying, ‘I love you,'” Howie said.
Carlos was born in Argentina, and performed in South America and Germany before recording his debut album in 2007. During the Judge Cuts, Carlos opened up about the accident he suffered in which he broke both his legs. He watched AGT in the hospital and was determined to audition.
Unfortunately, Carlos was eliminated in the Judges Cuts, but he’s still performing. According to his Instagram bio, he even works as a vocal coach and advisor.
