‘The Voice’ Takes On ‘American Idol’ With ‘The Billboard Music Awards’
All season we have been watching the feud between the reboot of American Idol on ABC and the wildly popular The Voice on NBC. While Idol did worse on Monday nights when it went against The Voice directly, it did well on Sunday nights the last month or so. But now, as both shows are ending, NBC had one more trick up its sleeve: The Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night.
What does that have to do with The Voice? Because the host is none other than Kelly Clarkson. NBC has her on hosting duties specifically to promote The Voice. That’s called corporate synergy, y’all. I’m sure they will be promoting the hell out of The Voice finale and I’m also sure that the awards show will clobber American Idol in the ratings. Then Monday night the Idol finale will be up against The Voice finale. I can totally see The Voice winning the finale showdown.
We’ll have to wait and see, of course, but that’s pretty shrewd on the part of NBC. I’m sure that next season if the two shows are pitted against each other that the feud will continue. Than again, maybe American Idol will schedule itself at a different time than The Voice.
