Move Over Kelly Clarkson! 19 Year Old ‘American Idol’ Contestant Gives The Pop Princess A Run For Her Money

American Idol kicks off season 17, with pipes that will make you “slap yo momma!” The talent show Gods have gifted us with Myra Tran, the 19 year old Vietnamese student whose voice could bring tears to a mannequin. Idol judge, Luke Bryan immediately made the comparison to the shows most successful alumni, Kelly Clarkson. Personally I think she gives Kelly Clarkson a run for her money!
Myra Tran, 19, stole the show with her breathtaking rendition of One Night Only by Jennifer Hudson. Myra immigrated from Vietnam only a year ago, with dreams of performing on the American Idol stage.
It looks like those dreams have finally turned into reality! In the same way that the original American Idol got her start, Myra is on the fast track to success.
It’s no surprise that she would instantly stand out in the crowd, having already won a major singing competition. Prior to her American journey, she has already taken the title of champion on season 2 of The X-Factor Vietnam. Now she is on to broader horizons dipping her toe into one of the most saturated entertainment industries in the world.
The young vocalist blew away the judges within seconds of her performance, bringing deep emotion and pitch perfect notes. You could tell the judges had their minds made up less than half way through the performance.
By the time she was done the judges were giving each other high fives with their mouths wide open. Myra couldn’t help holding back the tears while receiving the highest praise an American Idol contestant can be given. Luke was the first to give his feedback saying, “You’re up there with the Kelley Clarkson’s of the world”.
Katy Perry had to give credit where credit was due when she sang her praises to the 19 year old. The California girl told Tran, “You just need to keep singing because I think if you keep singing, you’re really going to connect with people.”
Lionel chimed in with the opinion that her musical trajectory could potentially go beyond the reach of Kelly Clarkson. “There is nothing to compare you to,” he said. “You have stepped into a zone that’s yours and all I want you to do is, from now on, rule your zone. Because you are going places.”
In my opinion, if this is her first performance without the essential vocal training she will receive on Idol, Kelly Clarkson may need to watch her back!
