Model From Harry Styles’ “Watermelon Sugar” Video Says He Asked For Her Consent Before…

Fresh off of the release of his feel-good summer music video for “Watermelon Sugar,” Harry Styles is on top of the world. The video already has 17.6 million views and is full of gorgeous models digging into some juicy pieces of watermelon. But what one model revealed was going on behind the scenes might have you praising Harry for a whole different reason.
Ephrata Spoke About Harry Styles Making Sure The Models Were Comfortable On Set
One of the gorgeous models from the “Watermelon Sugar” video took to Instagram Live to share her experience working with the former One Direction member. Ephrata spoke about how when it came to her hair, Harry was cautious not to touch it without her consent. “The people were telling him to touch my hair and play with it and he was like, ‘Wait, wait, wait, pause — can I even touch your hair? Is that even okay?” she said. “And I was like ‘Yeah, that’s so nice. That was really sweet,” she continued. She proceeded to call him a “consent king” for asking in the first place. It really caught her off guard but she was thankful that he asked.
When it came to giving the singer a kiss on the cheek, Ephrata felt like she had to ask Harry for his consent. “I felt like I had to ask, too. I was like ‘Are you sure?’ and he was like ‘Yes, go ahead!” In the video, you can see Ehprata giving Harry a kiss on the cheek amongst all of the other touching and closeness featured in the video. She also said the singer was very thankful for all of the models participating in his video. Another model in the “Watermelon Sugar” video Aalany McMahan also said that Harry was big on consent during an Instagram Live session.

Harry Fans Are Praising Him For Asking Before Touching
Hearing things like this about celebrities does not happen often. Harry’s huge fan base supported his new “consent king” status. One twitter user said “the models from the Watermelon Sugar mv called Harry Styles ‘consent king,’ because he asked every time if it was okay to touch them and THAT my friend is how it’s f*cking done.”
Another fan said “when harry styles was told to touch the models that were literally PAID to be in HIS mv, he asked every single one of them for consent BEHIND the cameras. People will still try to find something wrong with him when he’s genuinely the purest artist out there.”
Some People Questioned Societal Standards Regarding Consent
However, some people pointed out that everyone should have the decency to ask for consent. They feel like it should be normalized. “Nothing against him, seems like a pretty cool decent dude but ummmm…..King because he has the decency and manners to ask? Sorry I thought was supposed to be the standard…” said one person on Instagram. This touched upon how low the bar is for societal standards about asking someone before touching them or getting permission. Another Instagram user said “so… doing the minimum and just being a decent human being is all it takes to be a king? wow, the bar really is low.” One person even called the bar “so low you could trip over it.”
One Twitter user said that we should “stop giving men a pat on the back for nothing.” So clearly not everyone agrees on the subject. It is true that consent should be something that is asked in every single one of these instances whether someone is a celebrity or not. And it certainly does raise questions about the standards that women have for men when it comes to asking for consent.
Everyone should have respect for one another and it’s good to see that Harry certainly has that for those that he works with. But, everyone in society should have these same mannerisms.
