Chrissy Teigen came under fire after making a joke on Twitter about rapper Megan Thee Stallion. Several of her fans pointed out that it was insensitive since Megan is currently recovering after being shot almost two weeks ago. This prompted Chrissy to put out an apology saying that her intentions were never to make fun of the situation.
Chrissy Teigen Faces Backlash After Making Joke About Megan Thee Stallion
The Twitter drama unfolded when one Twitter user tweeted “I have a Charles Manson joke and it kills.” In response to this tweet, Chrissy tweeted “I have a megan thee stallion joke but it needs to be twerked on.” This set people on Twitter off as several of them believed Chrissy was poking fun at Megan. Megan is currently recovering from a gunshot wound to her foot and had to undergo surgery to have the bullet removed. The shooting occurred while she was leaving a pool party and police then arrested rapper Torey Lanez on concealed weapon charges. When news of the shooting first broke, jokes were being made about the situation involving both rappers. This prompted Megan to put out a tweet asking people not to make light of the situation.
“Black women are so unprotected & we hold so many things in to protect the feelings of others w/o considering our own. It might be funny to y’all on the internet and just another messy topic for you to talk about but this is my real life and I’m real life hurt and traumatized” Megan tweeted. So, naturally, people felt like Chrissy was doing the exact opposite of what Megan asked people to do, have compassion.
Chrissy Apologized For Her Tweet About Megan
Once Chrissy saw that people were not happy about her tweet, she posted “Before u start, I love her,” and “I’ll delete because you guys are sooooo f*cking annoying. Just unfollow me you absolute tools.” She did go on to delete the tweet and turn her account private. Then, she went on to tweet an apology. “I used the play on words joke with a celeb and something their known for with meg and twerking and I should have known that it is just not the right time especially for something so dumb and sh*tty and pointless as the joke was,” she wrote.
She continued on to say “Making anyone feel reminded of a terrible time or letting you guys down sucks more than anything to me so I am sorry to Megan and anyone who thought this was about the incident at all. You’ll say someone else wrote this or that I don’t mean it and that’s always the punishment for having said it in the first place so I’ll take it.” And still, fans of Megan are not convinced that Chrissy is genuinely sorry. “It doesn’t matter how YOU take it Megan is upset and disturbed that someone she trusted hurt her and it was publicized. Chrissy Teigen is beyond weird and needs to stop talking. I wish y’all would quit making meg a punchline it’s sad” tweeted one person.
One Twitter user said Chrissy “should’ve kept that in the drafts.”
Do you think Chrissy’s tweet was insensitive after Megan’s shooting incident? And was her apology enough?
