Meet This Season’s ‘American Idol’ Contestants Introduced at The Oscars

A new American Idol trailer premiered during Sunday night’s Oscars broadcast, and it offers a first look at the upcoming season. Fittingly for the night, the show chose to pay tribute to an iconic scene from the movie Almost Famous.
Season 18 of the talent show (the third season on ABC) will premiere this Sunday, February 16. Check out the teaser below to meet some of this season’s talented contestants.
The ‘American Idol’ Season 18 Trailer
In the clip, hopefuls say goodbye to their loved ones and board the American Idol bus. Much like in the film Almost Famous, they end up singing Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” together. Eventually, we see that host Ryan Seacrest is driving the bus.
KATY PERRY DAZZLES IN HAWAII WHILE FILMING AMERICAN IDOL 2020
“Tiny Dancer” is an appropriate song choice, not only because the trailer premiered during the Oscars, but also because American Idol had an Elton John night last season.
Will any of this season’s contestants sing Elton John songs during the competition? What iconic artists, if any, will have episodes devoted to their songs? We can’t wait to watch the new season and find out.
When Does ‘American Idol’ Season 18 Premiere?
American Idol Season 18 will premiere on ABC Sunday, February 16. Judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan are all returning to the panel. The first episode of the show will reportedly feature auditions in cities like Savannah, Los Angeles, and Milwaukee.
IS ‘AMERICAN IDOL’ COPYING ‘THE VOICE’S FORMAT IN SEASON 18?
According to Deadline, this season’s contestants include a Harlem subway performer, a garbage collector, and a singer who receives “her own fairy tale twist” during her audition. Maybe a proposal? We’ll have to wait and see.
