Meet Indigo: Homeless After His Father Was Deported On James Charles’ Show ‘Instant Influencer’
James Charles is on top of the YouTube beauty world yet again. His new show Instant Influencer just premiered and it was nothing short of iconic. He will be testing six artists’ skills to see which one of them will be a beauty superstar. They will have special guests and surprises each week but in the end, only one of them will become an “Instant Influencer.” Meet the contestants and take a look at their makeup looks that they created in the first challenge.
For the first episode, James challenged the artists to come to the first day of filming wearing a makeup look that tells who they are as an artist.
Christian Perez AKA Indigo Is Looking To Become An ‘Instant Influencer’
This 18-year-old makeup lover is from Los Angeles, California. He moved there after his father got deported and he realized it was where he needed to be to further his career. His makeup looks are extremely intricate. He opened up about how he was homeless in 2019 because his dad got deported. Sometimes he paints his face like an alien, and sometimes he paints a portrait of someone like music superstar Billie Eilish on his face.
He works on his art all the time and he said that his daily routine consists of doing makeup and then posting pictures and videos after he does it. “I live, breathe, and die makeup,” he says confidently. His makeup look represents his time being homeless and includes a mask that symbolizes his dark past. His face is painted like an orchid to symbolize a brighter future ahead. He prefers to be called by his stage name, Indigo.
Gabriel Dreams Wants To Impress James Charles
Gabriel is 21 and also from Los Angeles. He grew up in foster care and did not have the best childhood. Makeup allows him to unleash his inner child. His mission in coming on the show is to show other people that “your past does not define you.” The look that he created is meant to inspire change. It features a skull with planet Earth painted on his face and a pair of wings. He wanted to represent the fact that we need to save the animals and nature that we have before it’s too late.
Kailin Chase Is A Vivacious Makeup Lover
Kailin is from Denver, Colorado and is 24. She said she went from being an ugly duckling that had a hard life to someone who never gives up. Kailin describes herself as really ambitious. She “found her power through makeup” and she wants to encourage other people to do the same. The look she created was “beautiful chaos” because she is so vivacious. She notes that one of her biggest struggles is that she rambles a lot, much like her explanation for the look. Will she win Instant Influencer?
Benny Cera Wants To Blossom In The Competition
Benny is an 18-year-old small-town boy from Pennsylvania. He thought he would always be stuck having nothing to do. Benny always felt like he couldn’t be himself most of the time. His love of makeup made him feel beautiful and broke him out of his shell. It also makes him feel confident. He can’t wait to “blossom in this competition.” Benny’s look features Japanese cherry blossoms on the lower half of his face and mountains on his forehead. The mountains remind him of his father and the cherry blossoms represent when his mother lived in Japan. This makeup look represents the future that is ahead of him and we certainly do think it is a bright one.
Ashley Strong Is A Hard-Working Mama
Ashley became a mom when she was 16 which came with its own set of challenges. She has struggled to keep a healthy balance in her life over the years. Artistry helps her slow down and center herself. She will do anything for her son and she is eager to win the competition. Her makeup look is ink-blot inspired and her message has to do with mental health. She says that no one person sees the same thing when there is an inkblot which is an important life message to take away from this show. Can she impress James Charles? She certainly did when she won this first challenge.
Britany Renteria Has A Bubbly Personality
Britany said she is really outgoing on YouTube but people think she is shy in real life. Kids would also whisper about her makeup at school but it just made her want to pursue a career in makeup even more. She moved out of her house when she was 15 and has two full-time jobs. She is just trying to “make it.” Britany’s look is representative of her bubbly personality and her love for playing with color on her eyes.
The winner of Instant Influencer will win filming equipment valued at $10,000 just like the setup James uses. They will also win a collaboration with James Charles on his YouTube channel with over 18 million subscribers. Perhaps the biggest prize of all is that they will win a whopping $50,000.
