Meet Bailey Rae: First Country Star On ‘The Voice’s Team Legend
One of the standouts on The Voice Season 19 is Bailey Rae, an 18-year-old country singer on Team Legend. She performed “Does My Ring Burn Your Finger” by Lee Ann Womack in her blind audition.
John Legend was the only coach to turn for Bailey, although Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton would have turned if their teams weren’t full. Bailey has made it through the Battles and Knockouts, and it’s time for the live shows. Read on to find out more about her.
5 Facts About ‘The Voice’ Star Bailey Rae
Bailey lives near coach Blake Shelton.
Bailey Rae is from Roberta, Oklahoma, which is close to where Blake Shelton and girlfriend Gwen Stefani live. “There is a good chance I have driven past your house and thrown trash in your yard,” Blake joked after Bailey’s audition. “That is how neighborly we are.”
That’s not Bailey’s only connection to Blake. She’s also performed at his bar Ole Red. Blake predicted that he would steal Bailey during the Battles, but that didn’t end up happening. Bailey is still Team Legend.
Bailey used to be a clogger.
Before she started singing country music, Bailey performed as a competitive clogger. According to her website, she won several National Championships, and her clogging team even competed in the World Dance Championship. After singing in church for years, Bailey started pursuing country music at 13 years old.
Bailey has won several awards for music.
Bailey Rae is the 2020 Ambassador for the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame, having won first place in last year’s annual showcase. She’s also won several other contests, including Freedom Fest Idol, the Oklahoma Cattleman’s Association National Anthem Contest, and the Dogwood Jamboree Talent Search.
She’s also a member of the Country Music Singers Association of Oklahoma and the Texas Country Music Association. She also teaches guitar, ukulele, and vocals at Shawnda Rains Studios. And did we mention she’s just 18 years old?
She released her first single earlier this year.
In January 2020, Bailey released her first single “Never Been This Lonely,” written by Charlie Shearer. It charted on the Texas Country Music Chart and was nominated for Texas Country Music Association 2020 Songwriter of the Year and Josie Music Awards 2020 Contemporary Country Song of the Year. In June, she released her second single, called “I’m in Love.”
Bailey is the first country artist on Team Legend.
After her audition, John Legend told Bailey, “You have the distinction of being the first country artist that I’ve had the privilege of coaching.” In an interview, Bailey noted that past Team Legend artist Marybeth Bird was more of a pop-country artist, but said, “I’m the very first country, country person on his team, so that’s really cool.”
Although she wasn’t sure how it would work out because they come from different genres, Bailey called John an “incredible artist.” She added, “I think he’s going to push me all around and I think it’s going to work out for the best.”
Be sure to watch Bailey Rae perform in the first live show this week, as she’ll compete against artists from all four teams for a chance to continue in the competition.
Bonus fun fact, Bailey loves Animals
She adopted the cutest little dog a few months ago and recently shared a picture on Instagram about her experience.
Meet Dewey!! We adopted him a few months ago from the local shelter and he has quickly become part of our family. (Although he obviously doesn’t like pictures!😂) Today is “Clear the Shelters” Day! Many animal shelters across the US are waiving or lowering their adoption fees! Please consider visiting a shelter today and bringing home a furry friend!
