‘The Masked Singer’ Week 5 Recap + A SHOCKING, Magical Reveal

Masked Singer Recap Week 5FOX

Reading Time: 4 minutes

This week on The Masked Singer, the lineup is changing! Two singers from the first group (Unicorn and Lion) and two singers from the second group (Rabbit and Alien) will go head-to-head to keep their masks on another week. And all four will be part of a group performance!

Now that we know what’s going down, let’s recap what happened.

Group Performance

To start the show, the Rabbit, Lion, Alien, and Unicorn all did a group performance! They sang “On Top of The World” by Imagine Dragons. It was actually really fun! And showcased the singers in a new way, interacting with each other. It’s especially crazy because none of them know who each other are! But it was a great way to begin the night.

The Rabbit

Clues: The Rabbit starts by saying, “Well howdy friends.” He said he’s done pop, country twang, and tonight he’s doing R&B. He says he’s a trickster, popping up here and there. The video shows him vanishing and reappearing. Then, the Rabbit is seen in a pizza shop with a sign that says “Brooklyn pizza available.” He closes his clues by saying, “I just hope I don’t pass out.” After his performance, the Rabbit brought out a “revealing item”–a magician kit!

Performance: The Rabbit kicked off the night, singing “Poison” by Bell Biv DeVoe. His performance was old school R&B through and through! The background and backup dancers were colorful and lively. Plus, the Rabbit himself got to show off some pretty sweet dance moves and a great range. This was an entertaining performance from a true showman!

Judges’ Guesses: Donnie Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre, Zac Brown

The Unicorn

Clues: The Unicorn says performing in front of people has always been her biggest fear, but the support she’s received has made her feel like she’s in Heaven. She’s been able to “craft” her own identity, she says as it shows her kitting. The Unicorn is also seen playing piano. Now, she can “do cartwheels” she’s so happy. The Unicorn says she’s proud of the hills where she comes from. When it came time for her physical clue, a typewriter was revealed.

Performance: For her performance, the Unicorn chose “I Love It” by Icona Pop. It’s not a vocally challenging or showcasing song, but it was a lot of fun! She worked the stage more than past weeks so this was one of my favorite performances by her. Even the judges point out how much more confident she is now!

Judges’ Guesses: Lauren Conrad, Tori Spelling, Denise Richards

The Alien

Clues: The Alien said she spent her entire life under a microscope, poked and prodded. She is shown reading a book called “How To Take Over the World.” Growing up, she always craved “the simple life.” She says, “That’s hot,” a famous saying by Paris Hilton. The Alien mentions again that she’s part of a famous family. There’s a shot of a snake after that. Her physical clue was a police badge with Muncie, Indiana. The Alien explained it by saying, “This badge is not a prop. I’m sworn to protect and serve.”

Performance: The Alien sang “Happy” by Pharrell for her performance tonight. This seems to be a night of lively song choices! And I’m not complaining. The Alien was dancing on the stage and singing pretty well, especially compared to her previous performances. The judges actually thought, for the first time, that she could be a true singer!

Judges’ Guesses: Nicole Richie, LaToya Jackson, Britney Spears, Paula Abdul

The Lion

Clues: The Lion is here to prove that being on the stage is her “destiny.” She talks about being a “model of courage and vulnerability,” just like the Lion in her favorite movie The Wizard of Oz. Next, she says it’s time for her to stop being “all sugar and spice.” At the end of her clues, the Lion says “tick tock, the twister is coming.” Her revealing item was a scrunchie, explaining it’s a “family heirloom.”

Performance: To end the night, the Lion sang “California Dreamin'” by The Mamas & The Papas. This was the performance of the night! The Lion proved she is a singer and THE one to beat. There were no frills here, just solid vocals. The fact that she could just stand there, pull in the audience, and blow them away, is a testament to her abilities.

Judges’ Guesses: Kesha or someone she collaborated with, Michelle Williams, Mel B

A Magical Celebrity is Unmasked

Once all the performances finished, the audience and judges voted on who would be unmasked. The Rabbit, Unicorn, and Alien joined the Lion of the stage. When the moment of truth came, Nick Cannon announced the Unicorn would be eliminated. The judges then gave their final guesses. Robin guessed Gabby Douglas, Jenny guessed Lauren Conrad, Nicole guessed Denise Richards, and Ken guessed Tori Spelling.

The Unicorn was revealed to be…Tori Spelling! Tori is an actress, author, and mom who is best known for her role on Beverly Hills, 90210. That means Ken Jeong got it right! Join us again next week for four more performances and another celebrity reveal on The Masked Singer.
