‘The Masked Singer’ Group C Premiere Recap + FIVE New Singers!
Tonight, we finally got to meet Group C on The Masked Singer season four! And they did not disappoint. Five new singers, five great performances, and one EPIC reveal.
So who was revealed? And who are our early Group C favorites? The Masked Singer Group C Premiere brought plenty of craziness. Here’s our recap of everything that went down:
Who is The Squiggly Monster?
Clues: The Squiggly Monster’s clues were video game-themed. We see a salami and a penguin on the screen during his intro. He chose the Squiggly Monster because people “always roll their eyes” at him. He has “1/100 Lives” and eats cookies in the game. The Squiggly Monster is a “patchwork of personas.” He claims to be a “father figure” and a “scoundrel.” A guy is seen with a monocle, top hat, and pink bow tie. Squiggly Monster says he’s “no Dumbo.” He’s seen DJing and reporting the news. At the end of his clues, he uses a stethoscope.
Performance: Kicking the night off singing “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” by CCR, the Squiggly Monster showed off all the eyes, arms, and vocals he had! He’s got a solid set of pipes and I loved the whole production with pinwheels surrounding the stage. As Nicole said, I was also “pleasantly surprised” by his voice!
Judges’ Guesses: Robin got a stand-up comedian vibe from the Squiggly Monster, guessing Ray Romano. Jenny thought it might be Brad Garrett or Al Franken. Ken predicted it could be Dr. Fauci!
Who is The Mushroom?
Clues: The Mushroom’s clues had Hamilton references like “a hero and a scholar,” “young, scrappy, and fungi,” “rise up,” and the “shroom where it happened.” We see a hot dog stand, a violin and case, a bug, a hot dog stand, and a 10-gallon hat. They started out in a “rat race,” as they are seen running away with a briefcase. Mushroom is then seen on a stage, where they got a shot to turn their “hobby into a career.” Two men in black, acting as judges, are seen with gardening tools.
Performance: Covering “This Woman’s Work” by Maxwell, this singer brought their falsetto. While it was a little unclear whether the Mushroom was male or female at first, I feel like this has to be a male…right? RIGHT?! Either way, he crushed this performance. I can’t wait to see what else he’s got to offer after this!
Judges’ Guesses: Nicole predicted Lin-Manuel Miranda or Anthony Ramos from Hamilton or Donald Glover. Ken thought it could be Usher. Jenny threw out Frank Ocean as her guess.
Who is The Jellyfish?
Clues: Jellyfish’s clues started with her on “Instaclam.” She introduces herself holding a book with the title “The Little(ish) Jellyfish.” Once upon a time, she “reigned supreme over an entire underwater kingdom.” We see two paper fans and a bouquet of white lilies as she sits on a throne with organ pipes on it, wearing a tiara. She journeys out, encountering a sign that said “NEW RULES: No rough guys, no just can’t get enough guys, no chest always so puffed guys.” Jellyfish rolls up to “GLOWJELLA,” an obvious play on a music festival. There she runs into an angelfish and a ray. She swims by a bottle of baby powder.
Performance: The Jellyfish sang “Big Girls Don’t Cry” by Fergie, a favorite of mine from my high school days. She did a good job with the song but she was clearly nervous. Does that mean she’s not a performer usually? Regardless, Jellyfish has some impressive vocals!
Judges’ Guesses: Robin thought it might be an athlete like Gabby Douglas. Ken pointed to the bubbles in the clues, guessing Chloe Grace Moretz or Awkwafina. Nicole was getting Sofia Richie vibes from the Jellyfish.
Who is The Broccoli?
Clues: The Broccoli started off on “BRIKBROK” doing a dance challenge. He had 60M likes and 75 comments. Broccoli is then shown lounging next to a can of soup and two dogs who have peppers for bodies. We also see a treehouse. He says “a contest” started his career. Now he works with the “biggest artists.” A mariachi band is shown. Next, he is in a car with the license plate “LD1ESMN.” He’s been on “many stages,” but none of them have excited him more than this one. Broccoli then swings onto a stage, where he dances again.
Performance: Despite his young-skewing clues, his voice doesn’t sound young! Broccoli sang “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Going On” by Jerry Lee Lewis and definitely brought the energy. He was having fun on the stage for sure! Not the most impressive voice but I was entertained.
Judges’ Guesses: Nicole thought it was Jason Derulo from the clues, but after hearing him sing guessed Bill Murray. Jenny said Jerry Springer and Henry Winkler were on her mind, but ultimately predicted Howie Mandel. Robin predicted Steve Guttenburg.
Who is The Lips?
Clues: Lips clues were at a skating rink, where she wore leopard print skates. We see a kangaroo on skates on the wall. She’s seen dancing in a disco scene, with a disco mirror ball prominently displayed. We then see some poutine. She says she always speaks her truth. One of the men in black is seen DJing and one is in a green and blue “12” jersey. Then, she’s laying down in front of the “WEST WING SNACK BAR.” Lips is here to “feed you a performance” that will get you talking. “Isn’t that fire?” she asks. Next, she is seen getting shocked, claiming that she’ll “shock her fans” on this stage. We see a scoop of ice cream topped with two cherries to close out her clues.
Performance: To close out the episode, Lips sang “Native New Yorker” by Odyssey. And starting by talking, her voice was so recognizable right away to me! This wasn’t a good performance vocally but she was hilarious. You gotta love the energy and her ability to laugh at herself!
Judges’ Guesses: At first, Robin thought Lips could be Kelly LeBrock. But then, he ended up guessing Sandra Bernhard. Jenny said “of course” it’s Wendy Williams, which Nicole agreed with. Ken did not agree with them though, thinking it’s Allison Janney.
The First Group C Reveal on The Masked Singer Season 4!
After all the performances, someone had to be revealed. And the first celebrity eliminated from Group C was…the Lips mask!
But which celebrity was under the mask?
It was…WENDY WILLIAMS!
Well duh! She wasn’t even trying to hide her voice on this one. No one was even close to guessing him, as most panelists (and guesses online) focused on comedians or actors.
The remaining four will return for the Group C Playoffs next week. Join us for The Masked Singer again then, but in the meantime check out our recaps on YouTube.
