ABC’s American Idol and NBC’s The Voice don’t just battle it out in the ratings game, there are many special accolades out there up for grabs, and the rival reality shows often find themselves competing in the same category. Like during last night’s People’s Choice Awards, for example.
While The Voice and those affiliated with the show did take home a couple statues, there was one category in which Idol came out on top. When the reigning champions of each show – Maddie Poppe of Idol and Brynn Cartelli of The Voice – competed for the “Competition Contestant” Award, it was Maddie who clinched the win.
While both artists have seen some level of success after their respective seasons, Maddie is definitely a stronger presence in the media at the moment. Since winning the first ABC season of American Idol, she has released multiple singles, toured across America with some of her Idol castmates, and is set to appear on two upcoming Disney holiday specials before the end of the year.
While Brynn is still more relevant after most Voice champions this many months out from the end of their season, having been announced to tour with mentor Kelly Clarkson and all, she’s just not at the level of relevancy Maddie is right now (and considering the People’s Choice winners are determined on social media platforms, it only makes sense why Maddie would win the award over her).
Congratulations to Maddie on the award!
