Luke Bryan Wants To Be Kind But Fair On ‘American Idol’
Maybe it’s just that I left the South a long time ago, but the American Idol judge that I know the least is Luke Bryan. I’m not a big modern country fan. But he seems like a nice enough guy. That is the approach he plans to take on American Idol. He’s still figuring out his TV personality, but it looks like he may end up being the Paula Abdul of the group.
He’s in the thick of it right now as they work through the audition process. It’s kind of a trial by fire sort of situation as you learn as you go. It’s not like he had a lot of prior notice before he was hired. He said,
“I think it’s about just being me and carving out who I am as a television personality. I am still having to segue from being just a singer to being on television. In my path of judging, I’ve learned to be more blunt. My style will be polite, critical, but it will evolve through the show. and you will see me grow as a judge as I am more comfortable saying the word ‘no.’ I’m not an over-thinker. I’m a speaker of the heart.”
I feel like he’s going to be the heart of the show. Katy Perry has already said she’s brutally honest and Lionel Richie brings his decades of experience to the table. Luke is there to make the pill easier to swallow.
