The Voice is debuting a new twist in season 16. This season, the Live Cross Battles will replace the Knockouts, and allow viewers at home to vote for their favorites earlier than ever!
See an explanation of the new round for yourself in the video below. Then we’ll get into what it means for YOU.
So this season on The Voice, the Knockouts will be replaced by the Live Cross Battles. Two artists will go head-to-head from different teams and America will decide who advances to the next round LIVE. From what it seems, we could definitely end up with some teams having different numbers than others. For instance, a weaker team could lose more members than a stronger team in the Live Cross Battles. And only time will tell if that happens or not! But my money is on Team Kelly and Team Legend.
Usually we would start voting in the Live Playoffs, which happen around the Top 20-24. This new format allows viewers to start voting when there are still 32 acts left in the competition! The change-up probably has to do with The Voice going head-to-head with American Idol again now, but I’m not complaining. This will be entertaining television and yet another reason to watch the show live. Plus, we’ll actually get to see our favorites make it to the Live Playoffs this season!
But don’t worry! Each coach still gets one steal and one save in the Live Cross Battles. That guarantees that everyone will have at LEAST two artists on their team at the end. But with all the craziness and uncertainty ahead, coach Adam Levine described the new twist as “the Wild Wild West.”
Aside from the judge’s picks, the rest is up to us at home! So get ready to vote next Monday and Tuesday when The Voice goes live for its first ever Live Cross Battles.
