Is La Fontaine Humane The First ‘AGT’ Season 13 Wildcard?
Tonight was the last episode of America’s Got Talent Judge Cuts, and next week we’ll be moving forward to the live shows. But even after auditions and Judge Cuts, there are still a few spots in the quarter-finals reserved for “Wildcard” acts who are selected by the show to return to compete after having previously been eliminated, and the show may have revealed one to us this evening: La Fontaine Humane!
At the end of tonight’s Judge Cuts, a preview for the first live episode of the season was shown, and many fans were quick to notice featured in said preview was none other than La Fontaine Humane, aka the Human Fountains!
The water-spitting act was eliminated in the first Judge Cuts episode that aired back in July and wasn’t exactly on my radar as a potential Wildcard, but if they are indeed back I won’t really be surprised either. They got a lot of focus in the first two rounds, having both their initial audition and Judge Cuts performance shown in full. So the audience should be familiar with the group, but if they are returning I hope the show provides an on-air explanation for their Wildcard status in order to minimize the confusion and resentment some fans have expressed in the past when they’ve brought acts back and acted like they were never even eliminated in the first place.
Sometimes an AGT Wildcard gets an underdog or redemption edit and proves to be a fan favorite, but the majority of them end up being little more than “filler” acts who are eliminated during results the next day. I’m envisioning La Fontaine falling under the latter category; no one seemed to be clamoring for them to return like they’ve been doing for other acts such as singer Jeffrey Li and comedian Oliver Graves, and the main appeal of act is mostly based on novelty, which generally wears off pretty quickly.
Still, it should be pretty interesting to see what these guys can bring to the table in a setting on a bigger stage with access to more props. Will they put on another skit like in the Judge Cuts round? Will they amp up the gross-out factor even further than before? It looks like we may find out the answers to these questions during next week’s live show.
The first episode of the America’s Got Talent Season 13 quarter-finals will air Tuesday, August 14 at 8/7c on NBC.
