Kim Kardashian’s Emotional Plea For Death Row Inmate Who Hasn’t Hugged His Parents In 21 Years
Kim Kardashian has been continuing her work on criminal justice reform throughout the coronavirus pandemic. The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star recently met with the family of Julius Jones who is currently on death row. She put out an emotional plea on Instagram to help get justice for Julius.
Emotional Kim Kardashian Wants Justice For Death Row Inmate Julius Jones
“I was honored to sit with Julius Jones on death row in Oklahoma last week and then spend some time at church with his family” she wrote. Kim posed with the family at church in the photoset she posted on Instagram. “Julius has been incarcerated for over 21 years for a crime he did not commit. The effects that this has had on his family is really unimaginable and I pray the parole board recommends his commutation because this man needs to be able to hug his parents again. #JusticeForJulius” she added.
Julius’s story was featured in Viola Davis’s docuseries The Last Defense. In 2002, Julius was convicted of first-degree murder for the death of Paul Howell who was shot in the head while sitting in his car. Julius was arrested for the crime. He filed for clemency in October of 2019 and has continued to maintain that he was not involved in the crime.
“As God is my witness, I was not involved in any way in the crimes that led to Howell being shot and killed,” Jones said in his clemency report. “I have spent the past 20 years on death row for a crime I did not commit, did not witness and was not at.”
“The last time Julius’s parents hugged him was when he was 19. That was 21 years ago” Kim continued. “Julius Jones mother @madelinejones48 should be able to hug her son. She’s so strong and her faith and strength is so inspirational. We will not give up the fight to free Julius Jones!”
Kim Spoke To Julius On Death And Hopes To Get Justice
Kim got to sit with Julius on death row and they talked about his family. “Julius broke down in tears when he spoke of his sister Antoinette @sassysoulinc, he promised her he would take her to prom and because of wrongful conviction, he was unable to take her! We need to get him out and plan the best prom ever!!!” she wrote. Antoinette posted a petition on Change.org to help save Julius from death row.
The Julius Jones Coalition was established in 2019 by family members, friends and community leaders to pursue his innocence. It has been backed by celebrities and athletes like Blake Griffin, Russell Westbrook, Trae Young, Buddy Hield and Baker Mayfield. Now Kim is lending her voice once again to Julius who she believes was wrongly incarcerated.
“I’m so thankful for the most supportive freedom fighters for Julius Jones. We won’t stop until we get justice” Kim concluded the post. Kim who is currently in law school has helped free over 17 inmates over the past few years. She helped free Alice Marie Johnson back in 2018 who was serving a life sentence for a non-violent drug charge. Alice has since become a model for Kim’s Skims shapewear collection.
