Kickboxing Instructor Katrina Rose Goes For A Knockout On ‘The Voice’

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Katrina Rose’s time on Season 13 of The Voice was short, but the singer packed a powerful punch with her voice. The North Carolina native was an accomplished stage actress before walking into the Blind Auditions. Although fans barely had the chance to watch Katrina evolve, she still left an impression years after her time on the hit show.

The Voice alum came from a musical family. Katrina learned to sing before she even spoke. Katrina got into New York University and studied musical theater and vocal performance until her junior year. At that time, she went to an open call for Hairspray on Broadway.

At only 20 years old, Katrina was hired as the stand-in for the lead role, Tracy Turnblad. The singer toured in other Broadway productions as well, continuing to add to her resume. Katrina’s unhealthy ways of getting fit led her to become a certified kickboxer. With a fresh outlook on life, Katrina knew that The Voice stage was the best platform to relaunch her career.

Katrina performed Janis Joplin’s “Kozmic Blues” for her blind audition. She managed to turn the chair of Miley Cyrus, who became her initial coach. That year Katrina made The Voice history for being a part of Cyrus’s all-female team. Katrina proceeded to the Battle Rounds and performed the song “W.O.M.A.N.” by Etta James with her opponent, Janice Freeman.

Cyrus named Freeman the winner of the Battle, but Katrina was stolen and joined Team Jennifer. Hudson paired Katrina against Chris Weaver during the Knockout Rounds. Katrina performed “Zombie” from The Cranberries.

The singer’s rockstar personality and gigantic voice was not enough to secure her future during that season.
