Kelly Clarkson Sings ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ — But It’s Not What You Think [VIDEO]
Leave it to Kelly Clarkson to sing a completely different version of “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” and totally make it work. If you were expecting the Mariah Carey holiday hit, think again.
Instead, Kelly performed a song by the same title, released in 1989 by the band Vince Vance & the Valiants. Kelly also released it as a Christmas single this year. Check out her Kellyoke performance below.
Kelly Clarkson Sings ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’
Kelly Clarkson performed the song on her talk show The Kelly Clarkson Show this week, and it’s totally getting us in the holiday spirit. The singer wore a dark velvet dress to perform, while her band donned tuxedoes.
“I don’t need sleigh rides in the snow / Don’t want a Christmas that’s blue,” the song goes. “Take back the tinsel, stockings, and bows / ‘Cause all I want for Christmas is you.” Later, she sings, “You are the angel atop my tree / You are my dream come true.”
Commenters on YouTube were certainly impressed by the performance, with one writing, “I prefer this song, covered by Kelly, over Mariah’s one of the same name.” Some fans were expecting the Mariah version, but they were still impressed by Kelly’s performance.
Kelly Is Owning Christmas This Year
The holidays may look a little different this year, but that hasn’t stopped Kelly from doing her part to make spirits bright. She’s released two new Christmas singles this year, including “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
Kelly said in a statement that she’s been singing the tune since she was a little kid. “I always loved that it’s a ballad but the woman always sounded so rock ‘n’ roll with her raspy tone on the big notes,” she said. “It has an old school vibe and is a little pop, country, and rock ‘n’ roll.”
Kelly also released “Under the Mistletoe” with Brett Eldredge. The pair performed the song on The Voice earlier this month, and their chemistry has fans wondering if there’s real romance blooming between them.
The Voice coach also recently joined forces with Tori Kelly to perform “Silent Night” on her talk show. And if that’s not enough Kelly Clarkson Christmas for you, remember that she has a holiday album called Wrapped in Red, which she released in 2013.
