Kelly Clarkson Opens Up About 4-Year-Old Son’s Speech And Hearing Issues
NBC The Voice coach Kelly Clarkson has opened up about her son Remy’s need for speech therapy after dealing with hearing issues. The family had to adjust his lessons due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kelly has two kids with husband Brandon Blackstock — 4-year-old son Remington Alexander and 6-year-old daughter River Rose. In June, the news broke that Kelly and Brandon were getting divorced after almost seven years of marriage.
Kelly Clarkson’s Son Needs Speech Therapy
Kelly Clarkson explained to People magazine that Remy (short for Remington) had hearing issues when he was younger due to wax buildup, which caused him to have problems with speech.
“He had a speech problem because he had this ear problem when he was a baby. We didn’t know,” Kelly said. “But way deep down in his ears, he got clogged up with a ton of wax where we thought, almost, he was deaf because he spoke as if he was underwater.”

Kelly says this problem “pushed him back almost nine months.” Since the pandemic started, and the family began spending quarantine in Montana, Remington has met with his speech therapist via Zoom.
“The big milestone for us is Remy getting to really find out his own personality and his identity,” Kelly shared, “because it’s been frustrating for him to not be able to really vocalize his emotion.” She said he’s now “making full sentences” and “engaging” with his family, which Kelly calls “a blessing.”
What Will Kelly And Brandon’s Custody Look Like?
According to Today, Kelly cited “irreconcilable differences” when filing for divorce from husband Brandon Blackstock. She reportedly asked for their prenuptial agreement to be enforced and to legally change her name back to Kelly Clarkson.

Kelly also asked to share joint custody of their children Remington and River. Brandon has reportedly agreed to this request. He also has two other kids, Seth and Savannah, from a previous relationship.
Kelly, Brandon, and the kids were spending the pandemic at their ranch in Montana. This is also where Kelly filmed The Voice and her talk show remotely. They had an issue with their pipes freezing in March, and Kelly had to use son Remy’s potty.
