Kelly Clarkson Broke Down In Tears During The Knockouts On ‘The Voice’
Prior to his performance in the Knockouts, Carter got to work with mega mentor Usher to perfect his song. He spoke about how he learned that he was very unique from a young age. “Being a 14-year-old boy in middle school-slash-high school that sings, not very athletic… most boys my age their voices have already dropped down,” he said. “So I have been picked on by other kids for being this different, unique individual.”
“As I get older, I realize being unique isn’t a bad thing,” he continued. “I don’t need their validation. And I think it was totally worth staying strong through all that nonsense to have gotten here and show my unique side.” He chose the perfect song to convey this message and it led to Kelly getting super emotional. At several points during the performance, the camera panned to Kelly as she watched in disbelief at Carter’s talent.
In the end, Kelly lost it and put her hand to her face as she could no longer hold back her tears.”Oh my God,” she said through tears after the performance. “Carter, I thought my makeup artist was going to have to come out here and fix everything that’s happening to me right now” she admitted. “That’s like a finale performance. It broke me in the most amazing of ways. I’m still like about to cry.”

Carter went up against Chloé Hogan in the Knockouts who performed “Weak” by SWV. “Chloé, I feel like I’m in that kinda space like if I don’t pick you, you’re going to become this huge star and I’m going to look like the big idiot on The Voice that didn’t pick you, and then John Legend takes you to fame,” Gwen said. “You’re so awesome.”
“My son, my child” Gwen said turning to Carter. “You needed to pick a song that you could relate to so that you could show that you are connected to your heart.” Gwen chose Carter as the winner of the Knockout. John Legend hit his steal and now Chloé is a member of his team just as Gwen predicted.
