Kelly Clarkson has been candid about her recent divorce since her talk show has returned. She even bonded with celebrity guest Usher over their shared experience splitting from their spouses.
Usher, who previously coached on Kelly’s show The Voice, spoke about the inspiration behind his new song “Bad Habits.” The topic of divorce came up, and Kelly jokingly shared how much she can relate.

Usher said his new song is about “those bad habits that stop us from moving forward in life.” He said people are having “these very complicated conversations at home” now that families are spending more time together during the pandemic.
“We’re around each other a lot, Usher,” Kelly chimed in. Usher, who has been divorced twice, pointed out that “the divorce rate is ridiculously high at his point.” Without missing a beat, Kelly responded, “Yes, I am aware.”

As Kelly’s viewers know, the singer filed for divorce from her husband Brandon Blackstock earlier this year. The split happened after the couple had spent months together at their cabin in Montana during quarantine.
“At this point, I think it’s important for us to learn how to be honest with ourselves,” Usher said. Kelly agreed, adding, “So you don’t swim in the same stuff.”
Kelly Has Been More Open About Her Divorce
Although Kelly stayed pretty quiet about her divorce when the news first broke, she’s since become more open about it. During the season premiere of her talk show, she said she “definitely didn’t see anything coming that came.”

“We have four kids and divorce is never easy,” Kelly continued. “And we’re both from divorced families so we know the best thing here is to protect our children and their little hearts.”
She added that she wanted to protect her kids by not talking about the situation too much. “I will talk a little bit here and there about how it affects me personally,” she said, “but probably won’t go too far into it because I’m a mama bear and my kids come first.”
However, Kelly shared that we would be hearing more about her experience on her next album, as she explained that writing is “how I get my feelings out.”
