Katy shared this advice after Idol contestants and real-life couple Margie Mays and Jonny West performed a duet together during Hollywood Week. According to Katy, the key to a successful relationship is “space.”
Katy Perry Talks Relationship With Orlando Bloom
After Jonny and Margie performed “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” by Meghan Trainor on American Idol this week, judge Katy Perry got real about relationships.
“I’ve had a couple of unsuccessful relationships in my life,” she said. Without missing a beat, Luke Bryan asked, “A couple?” Lionel Richie warned him, “Don’t go there.”

Katy ignored him, going on to share, “But one thing that’s going very well in my current relationship ….” (She took a moment to show off her engagement ring.) “One thing I have noticed that is really helpful is giving each other a little space.”
She told Jonny and Margie that it was important to support each other, but that appearing on the show was about “fulfilling your personal dreams.” Based on Katy and Orlando’s individual career success, it looks like they’re taking that advice.
Love In The Time Of Social Distancing
Giving each other space is actually really great advice for the current state of the world. As the coronavirus pandemic spreads, experts have encouraged people to practice social distancing, which often means keeping physical space between yourself and others.

Katy and Orlando recently reunited after the pandemic affected their plans. Katy was quarantined in an Australian hotel (the same one Tom Hanks stayed at) for 24 hours. Meanwhile, Orlando’s show Carnival Row halted production in Prague. They’re now back in the United States.
Katy is currently pregnant with the couple’s first child, so it’s obviously important that she stay healthy during this uncertain time.
