Katy Perry Explains Why ‘American Idol’ Is The Best Singing Show
Katy Perry is clearly the alpha of the reboot of American Idol which premieres this weekend on March 11th. Sure, Lionel Richie has been in the business for a million years and Luke Bryan is no slouch, but it’s Katy’s show, clearly. She was asked how Idol compares to the other singing competition shows and she threw some major shade at the other shows.
Katy was speaking at the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour when someone asked her how the new Idol compares to the other shows like The Voice, X Factor, AGT, etc. She had a response cued up. She said,
“I really think, like everybody has their opinions on these shows and there is a multitude of them, but I don’t want to be like super shady, but you can name 10 people — at least — that have come off ‘American Idol’… that have legitimate careers, that put out music, that have changed their journey, their destiny, affected people’s lives. They’re real artists. And I don’t think you can say that about any other show. Every other show you are like ‘who came off of that show?’ ‘What artist was it?’”
I mean…she’s got a point. Idol by far produced more successful stars than any of the shows combined with the exception of the British X Factor. But that’s the old American Idol. Can the new one match that track record? We’re going to have to wait and see.
